Picnic Table Centerpiece Ideas

Picnic Table Centerpiece Ideas

When planning a picnic, create your own centerpiece for the picnic table. Centerpieces are designed to be the focal point of the dinner table. You can make picnic table centerpieces with a few items from your local craft and retail stores. Create a colorful centerpiece that will catch your guests' eyes and have them talking about your artistic abilities. Does this Spark an idea?

Watering Can

Use a metal watering can as a centerpiece for your picnic table. Fill the can with water and add fresh flowers such as sunflowers, daisies or tulips. If you prefer to use artificial flowers, put a piece of rigid foam in the bottom of the can to keep the flowers' stems in place.

Galvanized Metal Pails

Purchase three small galvanized metal pails to use as a centerpiece. Put the metal pails in a bunch on the table and tie a colorful ribbon around the three of them. Place the forks, spoons and knives in the buckets. Not only does this make a decorative centerpiece, but it gives you a place to put the dinnerware too.

Another idea for the galvanized look is to purchase or find a medium-size galvanized metal tub. Place the bucket in the middle of the table and fill it with ice. Stick drinks, such as fruit juices or glass soda bottles, in the ice. This makes a centerpiece that doubles as a convenient place to store beverages for your guests.

Fruit Basket

Line a medium-size wicker basket with a checkered cloth napkin. Allow the napkin to drape over the sides of the basket so it is visible. Place fresh fruit, such as oranges, apples, bananas and mangoes, in the wicker basket. Your colorful centerpiece is also a source of healthy snacks for your guests.

Vintage Birdcage

Find a small vintage birdcage at your local thrift or antique store. Fill the birdcage with fresh or artificial flowers, a small nest made from artificial moss, and an artificial bird. The moss and bird are available at many retail and craft stores. If you use fresh flowers like sunflowers or red daisies, place them in small teapots or mason jars filled with water.

Paper Lanterns

Paper lanterns are available at many party supply stores and come in several different sizes, colors and styles. Such a lantern has an opening on the top and sometimes the bottom. Stick tall fresh or artificial flowers in the paper lantern to create a centerpiece. If the table is large enough, place a medium-size lantern in the middle of the table and a smaller one at each end. Fill the lanterns with flowers like carnations or wildflowers.
