Centerpiece Crafts

A table centerpiece can add color and dimension to a dinner or even to the whole room. You can make centerpieces from many different materials very affordably. In fact, you may have a lot of items already on hand to create a beautiful centerpiece.

Edible Centerpiece

If you are having a dinner party, and you want to create a centerpiece that will get noticed, make the centerpiece edible. This is a fun idea that can be done with many different foods such as fruit, cheese, or a wide variety of other foods.

To make the edible centerpiece, obtain a tray or plate that will be the base and will catch any crumbs or juices. For this example, we'll do an edible fruit centerpiece. Place a whole pineapple on the tray. Place wooden skewers right into the pineapple all the way around at a variety of heights and depths. Spear different fruits onto the tips of these skewers. Consider strawberries, black berries, melon balls, or even cheese. When you're done, the centerpiece will be quite interesting and people will enjoy munching on it.

Place more fruits, cheeses and even meats around the decorated pineapple. This is also a good location for fruit dips. An edible centerpiece is a great idea because it will never go out of style and will be eaten by the end of the dinner party!

Floral Centerpiece

You can create a beautiful floral centerpiece, even if you have never done something like this before. Decide on the shape that you would like, such as a round, oval, or rectangle-shaped centerpiece. Synthetic flowers are nice because they'll keep forever; you can enjoy the floral centerpiece for weeks, months or even years.

To make the centerpiece, stick the flower stems into the Styrofoam. Clip the stems with wire cutters for a low-profile piece. Play around with different lengths to create the look you want. For a higher-profile look, cover the base with a shorter layer of flowers (painting the foam a complementary color is also helpful for blending purposes). This will create a full look and also cover the Styrofoam base. Add a bit more texture with artificial fruit and ribbons.

Autumn Centerpiece

Many people struggle with a fall-themed centerpiece. Flowers don't seem appropriate but you aren't ready for holiday-related items. Make a fall centerpiece by purchasing a fall-themed wreath from a craft or hobby store; these wreaths are often made of grape vines. Place this wreath in the center of your table, and fill the wreath's center with gourds you pick up at the grocery store. This is quick and easy but makes an attractive fall centerpiece.
