How to Build a Decorative Table Centerpiece

How to Build a Decorative Table Centerpiece

Its possible to build a decorative table centerpiece from almost any material. However, unless youre experienced with a particular medium, its best to stick with simple building projects that use common materials. To build a decorative table centerpiece that looks expensive but costs little, try creating an artistic tray using some plywood and an old picture frame. The picture frame will need to be around 1- by 1-foot with a frame thick enough to create a tray rim at least 1-inch tall. You also need to buy or make 4-cubic inch wooden block.

Instructions

    1

Remove any glass, backing, nails or wires from the picture frame to plan to use for the decorative table centerpiece. Place the picture frame, face up, flat against a piece of plywood. Trace the frame shape on the plywood with a pencil. Carefully saw the shape out of the plywood.

    2

Place the frame, face up, flat on the plywood shape to check that they line up exactly. Sand the edges of the plywood if needed and dust away sawdust with a rag. Cover the back of the frame with wood glue and press it against the plywood to create a tray for the decorative table centerpiece. Wipe up any dripping glue with a rag and let dry.

    3

Cover the plywood and frame tray evenly with glossy cobalt blue craft paint. Cover the wood block with paint. Let dry. Turn tray and block over to paint bottoms. Let dry. Repeat with second coat on top and bottom if needed.

    4

Place the wood block in the center of the tray to finish building the decorative table centerpiece. The block can be glued to the center of the tray, but by leaving it loose, you make it easy to remove so that you can use the plain tray in other centerpiece projects.

    5

Fill the frame tray for the decorative table centerpiece about 3/4 full with small, white, decorative stones. Cut the stems from four faux sunflowers. Place a flower in the decorative stones on each side of the wood block.

    6

Fill the clear glass votive candle holder about 1/3 full with white decorative stones. Place the yellow votive candle in the holder and press it into the rocks slightly to make sure it is stable and secure. Place the decorative table centerpiece on the table and light the votive candle.
