Decoration Ideas for an Asian Wedding Reception

Decoration Ideas for an Asian Wedding Reception

You don't have to be Asian to incorporate the culture into your wedding and reception. Asian wedding receptions are filled with unique colors, shapes, patterns, tastes and sounds. Everything from silk fans in the hands of guests to origami-influenced silk duponi napkins to fortune cookie favors can be decorations for an Asian wedding and can infuse the cultures of China, Japan, Korea and others.

Chinese Take-Out Boxes

Use Chinese take-out boxes to decorate the dessert table or candy bar. Have guests use the boxes to store any favors, treats and desserts they receive at the reception. You can use them to creatively serve appetizers and to hold notes of good luck and well wishes to the bride and groom.

Flowers and Plants

Asian-inspired weddings use flowers and plants like cherry blossoms, lotus blossoms, orchids, poppies, bear grass, topiaries, wheat grass and bamboo to add dcor to the reception site. Use these flowers or plants to create elaborate or simple centerpieces. You can also use them to hold place cards, to decorate favors or as decoration for utensils and place settings.

Fans

Whether silk, paper or wooden, fans are popular in the Asian culture. Include your reception menu on paper fans and set one at each place setting. Spread silk fans to decorate food and dessert tables. Fans can also be used as centerpieces or given away as favors with a special message from the bride and groom.

Fortune Cookies

Fortune cookies can display wedding-specific message or display fortunes in a typical fashion. Use fortune cookies to decorate place settings and give guests a little snack to enjoy before dinner is served. Fortune cookies don't just come in plain flavors and styles, they can be iced and adorned with sprinkles and other confections to match the theme of the wedding reception and add a bit of color to the wedding tables.

Double Happiness Symbol

The double happiness symbol is prevalent in Chinese culture. It's used at wedding receptions to decorate menus, can be embroidered on napkins, placed on candles featured on each table and even hung from a wall over the bridal party's table. For the most part, this symbol can be personalized for anything from the wedding cake to the favor boxes.

Square Dinnerware

Square dinnerware and glassware add a unique visual effect to your Asian wedding reception and pay homage to the culture. Use the items to set the tables and opt for colors like yellow, white or red to fit the theme. Decorate the plates with a fresh cherry blossom or orchid.

Lanterns

Lanterns, which come in a variety of styles, are used to decorate guests' tables, dessert tables and the bridal table. Use them to create an extravagant lighting effect and to add a pop of color to the reception. Paper lanterns can be hung from the ceiling to give the reception venue added height and a more dramatic design.

Origami Napkins

Fold silk or cotton napkins into origami shapes and add them to each table setting. Use the napkins to hold place cards for each guest. Popular shapes include the swan, the standing fan or a fortune cookie.
