Decide what table you will be creating a centerpiece for: a kitchen table, dining room table, an end table or perhaps the mantle. There are many elements you can use in creating a centerpiece, however, some centerpieces are better for one location than the other. For instance, a candle centerpiece would be more ideal for a mantle or dining room table than an end table or kitchen table, especially if you have small children running around.

Try adding some rocks, gems, pine cones, or even seashells around the base of the candles.

Candles are a nice way to add simple elegance to a mantle or dining room table. Purchase a couple of candles in different sizes, gather them together and place them on a nice plate. You could also add some small gourds, flowers or gems around the base of the candles, depending on the season. Candles, plates and decorative pieces such as flowers, gems or even pine cones can be purchased at a dollar store, or super center for minimal cost. When choosing an area to display your centerpiece make sure it is in an area not likely to cause fire; for instance, keep it away from curtains and out of a child's reach to avoid the possibility of catching fire.

A more natural look can be obtained by gathering some sticks from your yard or a park nearby and placing them in a tall vase. If needed, you can cut them to size, from the bottom of the stems, so as to not disturb the natural look you are aiming for.

For a more feminine look, purchase one or two flowers and place them in a tall vase. Flowers like dendrobiums, phalaenopsis, or even tulips are nice when paired with just one or two others.

    3
Use a garland and/or evergreen as the base and scatter things like poinsettias, Christmas ball ornaments and candles on top.

To save even more money, take into consideration the fact that you will probably be changing your centerpiece as the season changes. Purchase a glass bowl, plate or basket that will work all year round. Then, you can interchange what it holds throughout the year. From Christmas ornaments, to pine cones, large sea shells, or fruit, the possibilities are endless.
