Ideas for Centerpieces at Wedding Reception Tables

Ideas for Centerpieces at Wedding Reception Tables

Wedding centerpieces bring beauty to the table without interfering with the guests. Avoid overly large centerpieces that block the view of table mates and the wedding party, and highly scented ones that can irritate some people. Keep in mind your wedding colors and theme when choosing flowers and colors to use in your centerpieces.

Floral centerpieces

Rather than a vase full of flowers---which will block eye contact between those seated at a table---place a clear bowl on the table. Fill the bowl with water. Choose a large artificial flower that matches the wedding flowers. Remove the stem and hot glue fishing weights to the bottom of the flower or place inside the bloom on full flowers such as roses. Put the flower into the bowl so that it sinks to the bottom. Place floating candles in rose or flower shapes on the surface of the water and light them. Scatter artificial petals around the bowl.

Use low urns or vintage cream pitchers for your flower arrangements. Cut the stems so the blooms rest just above the rim. Fill the urn with plenty of large blooms such as open roses or hydrangea to make a globular arrangement low on the table.

Candle Centerpieces

Choose three clear glass vases with straight sides in varying heights. Fill halfway with decorative rocks or glass pebbles. Fill with water nearly to the rim. Place a floating candle on the surface of the water and then light it.

If you have long tables instead of round, use a long and narrow dish or tray down the center of the table. Place 4-inch pillar candles evenly spaced along the length of the tray. Fill with glass pebbles or decorative rocks in the wedding colors. Alternately, fill with clean sand and place the candles on top.

Place a pillar candle that is 5 inches in diameter on a candle base. Wrap a 1-inch wide fabric ribbon around the base of the candle and tie in a bow. Attach clear glass rhinestones to the outside of the candle with hot glue, either randomly or in a pattern. Choose a base 2 inches larger than the candle and sprinkle glass pebbles around the candle.

Favor centerpieces

Combine your centerpiece with your wedding favors. Place a clear bowl, at least 6 inches deep, in the center of the table. Fill with artificial flowers with the stems removed. Place a shallow silver bowl on top of the flower-filled bowl. Choose a silver bowl that will fit into the top of the clear glass dish snugly but doesn't fall inside. place your favor bags in the silver bowl.

Place small ivy or fish bowls on the table. Tie ribbons in the wedding colors around the rim in a bow, then hot glue a small artificial flower to the center. Fill the bowl with your favor bags.
