Centerpiece Ideas

The great thing about Asian-themed decorations is that many of them are inexpensive or found naturally, so you don't need to break the bank while buying your centerpiece materials.

Consider a centerpiece of paper lanterns; simply group different colored paper lanterns, or lanterns that match the colors for your event, and light. Five to eight lanterns in the center of a table give a simple yet modern look, while still being definitively Asian in nature. How about adding some elements of the ancient art of origami to your tables? You can request that the table napkins be folded in a traditionally Asian way, such as in the form of a crane. For added fun, you could leave printed directions on folding origami on the table for guests to examine and try their hand with. Your table elements can be beautiful and functional.

Smooth river stones are a perfect match for the Zen-like quality of an Asian themed event. Luckily, they are also inexpensive. Consider filling a square, white dish with smooth black river stones, and adding a pillar candle in the middle. This centerpiece is serene and beautiful, and will look impressive when lit.

You might also consider placing playful elements on your tables, such as mini-Chinese take out boxes. These small versions of traditional take out boxes are the perfect size to place small favors, candy and fortunes in. You can place them in the middle of the tables as decoration, and then encourage guests to bring the boxes home with them at the end of the event. You can purchase these boxes in bulk from many vendors, see the Resources section for more information.
