Center Table Decorations for Weddings

Center Table Decorations for Weddings

Preparing center table decorations for your wedding involves many decisions. Not only are you required to choose the containers and table items for the centerpiece, you are also expected to create a pleasing design. One solution is to pick a theme and make your selections for the table elements based on your theme.

Flower and Containers

Many table decorations include a centerpiece of flowers in a vase; however, other items may be substituted to hold your flowers, such as an urn, tin or wicker basket. These items work just as well as a vase and give you several different flower arrangement options. Many centerpiece arrangements consist of the dome, which gives a rounded appearance with taller flowers in the middle decreasing in height to the outer edges. Flowers that are usually used in a dome display include roses, calla lilies, tulips or orchids. Several other flower arrangement styles include the cascading display, where the flowers flow over the lip of the container, and the horizontal arrangement, where the height of the arrangement decreases from one side to the other.

Candles

Candlescapes can do double duty as centerpieces and provide mood lighting. Some candlescape designs include a grouping of pillar candles in the middle of a table, tapered candles inserted into an elaborate candelabra or tiny floating candles inside a glass container. These candles may all be the same color or different colors and of varying heights. Candles can also add interest to flower arrangements as they bounce light off of metal containers or crystal insets of a design.

Seascapes

Seascapes are primarily used for a beach- or Hawaiian-themed wedding. Large conch shells, coral pieces or fan shells are elevated and placed in the center of the table. Some may be used to hold plants while others are surrounded by candles. Fill fish bowls with sand and add shells inside. Some shells can lean against the sides of the fishbowl or a candle, while other shells sit on the sand. Sea shells can also be left, much like flower petals or confetti, around centerpiece displays.

Miscellaneous

Balloons may be used as a table decoration, whether they are tied to an existing flower centerpiece to give height or grouped together to form the whole centerpiece. Other table centerpiece options include staggering framed photographs of the couple in the center of the table, surrounding a flower or candle centerpiece with the frames, boxes of chocolate or several jars filled with candy.
