If you find yourself looking for a place to set your drink outside while relaxing, or maybe you need extra seating, make an outdoor table with paving stone. Outdoor tables of stone are attractive and, best of all, last for years. Leave a stone table outside through wind, sleet, snow, rain or ice; they're as dependable as your mail carrier. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Lay the stone paver right side up on the wrong side of the plywood scrap. Trace around all sides with pencil.
2Cut the plywood shape for the outdoor stone table using a jigsaw, making sure to cut inside the lines by 3/4 to 1 inch. Follow the shape as closely as you can. The inset is so the plywood support will not show when table is complete.
3Sand the plywood on the edges and the dress side of the wood. The dress side is the side that will be visible when you look under the completed table.
4Weatherproof the wood by applying one coat of exterior water base polycrylic to the dress side of the plywood. Let dry well.
5Load caulking gun and apply liquid nails to the wrong side of the plywood.
6Flip the stone paver on its top on level ground. Place sticky side of the plywood base on the wrong side of the paver. Stand on top of the plywood and move your feet slowly to eliminate air bubbles in the adhesive.
7Position flanges in place on the plywood base of the outdoor table. Screw the four caps onto the threaded pipes on one end.
8Make a starter hole in the wood in the flange where the first screw will go. Use a tack hammer on the awl if needed.
9Set power drill to low speed for more control. Kneel over the power driver, using your weight as leverage to help set screws in place. Continue this procedure until the flanges are secured on the plywood base.
10Screw the uncapped end of each threaded pipe into a flange. Hand tighten to finish the table.
