How to Measure a Room for a Pool Table

Your pool table room must be large enough to accommodate the table and allow room for players to move around the table and use their cue sticks. You should measure the room's dimensions before shopping for the pool table so you don't buy a table too large for the room. Measurements should account for the use of standard 58-inch pool cues. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Use your tape measure to measure from one wall to the opposite wall.

    2

Repeat Step 1 for the other walls. If the room is not rectangular or square, such as if it includes a bay window, do not include that area in the measurement.

    3

Write the measurements down on a notepad.

    4

Determine what size pool table the room can accommodate. According to Billiards.com:

For a pool table that's 3 feet 6 inches by 7 feet, the room needs to be a minimum of 16 feet 8 inches by 13 feet 6 inches.

For a pool table that's 4 feet by 8 feet, the room needs to be a minimum of 17 feet 4 inches by 13 feet 11 inches.

For a pool table that's 4 feet 3 inches by 8 feet 6 inches, the room needs to be a minimum of 17 feet 9 inches by 14 feet 1 inch.

For a pool table that's 4 feet 6 inches by 9 feet, the room needs to be a minimum of 18 feet 4 inches by 14 feet 6 inches.
