How to Decorate an Entry Table

How to Decorate an Entry Table

The entry table very often becomes the repository for keys, school papers or a purse. However, it can be a welcome element in your overall decorating plan for your entryway. Once youve selected an entry table that fits your dcor, you can add some pieces that make this simple piece of furniture the focal point of your entryway. While the piece will still serve a practical purpose, it will also unify your decorating scheme. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose a table runner that features the colors in which youve decorated your entryway. These decorative elements add a splash of color to a table without becoming overpowering. Popular materials for this include thick woven or brocade fabrics as well as linen and cotton.

    2

Hang a mirror above the table. If you have furniture in the entryway in addition to the table, like a bench in which you store coats and winter boots, look for mirrors that feature that same type of material. If not, you can opt for a frame that offers a bit of visual contrast, like a polished pewter or silver frame.

    3

Provide some visual contrast to the table runner with some colored candle holders with brightly colored candles. Popular choices for this type of arrangement include candle holders of varying heights, candelabra or bowls of floating candles. Look for candle holders that match your mirrors frame to tie the look together.

    4

Add a key tree to the table. If you cant find one, you can substitute a coffee mug tree. Many of these feature hooks small enough to accommodate key chains. To add a little bit of color, either look for a tree that is already decorated or paint it.

    5

Choose a clock that fits the decorating style of the entryway. For example, if youve opted for a pewter or metal mirror frame, Art Deco clocks often feature these materials as well. However, a clock exists for every decorating style.

    6

Add some visual interest with an interesting sculpture to place on your table. There are a wide variety of subjects, from reproductions of the works of famous artists or ethnic styles to the more abstract.

    7

Put together a seasonal flower arrangement. If you keep a flower garden, include some of your own blooms. However, if this is a feature that youd like to display year-round, then look for dried or silk flowers. Another option would be faux grapes and silk grape leaves; this style works very well if your home features Tuscan decorating themes.

    8

Hang a small chalkboard or message board and some chalk or dry erasable markers on the wall. You can write messages to family members on the board and important reminders.
